NEW PUB: Romer’s Bar & Grill to open 2nd location on Brown St. near UD

A Brown Street bar that has operated for nearly a decade near the University of Dayton is changing name and ownership effective this weekend.

Bargos Grill & Tap at 1151 Brown St. is hosting a "Farewell Bargos event" this Sunday, Jan. 15, and the following day, the bar will transition to Romer's Bar & Grill, which has operated a restaurant and bar in Bellbrook for eight years.

Romer’s owner Greg Romer told this news outlet this morning that the new bar will remain open during the transition and will soon expand its hours following a kitchen renovation. New signage is expected to be installed next week.

Bargos had closed its kitchen, but Romer’s Bar & Grill will start serving both lunch and dinner following the renovations, Romer said.

“If all goes well, we hope to have the kitchen up and running with the next two weeks,” Romer said.

Plans call for expanding weekday hours to include lunch service after the renovations are complete, the pub’s owner said. Bargos had been opening at 4 p.m. on weekdays, but Romer said he will open at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, and at noon on weekends, after the kitchen makeover.

The menu will have many of the favorites — including wings and turkey balls — that customers have embraced at the Bellbrook sports bar at 4439 State Route 725, Romer said.

The opening of the Brown Street location will have no impact on the Bellbrook sports bar. “This has been my baby for eight years,” Romer said. “It will remain open.”

“We always wanted to expand, and this was a great opportunity to locate near a college campus,” Romer said. He predicted the quality of the food will help the new bar attract a following, not only from UD’s campus but also from Miami Valley Hospital and other nearby employers.

The Bargos Grill & Tap on Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Twp. remains open and operating.
