NEW RESTAURANT: Local Cajun food truck to launch a bricks & mortar spot

A fourth Dayton-area food truck has set its sights on opening a bricks-and-mortar restaurant.

The Bourbon Bayou Bistro is in the works at 607 N. Detroit St. in Xenia, in space that previously housed a Stan The Donut Man shop. The doughnut shop shut down in January 2017 after nearly two years.

And Xenia residents can get a taste of what’s in store at the new restaurant: The Bourbon Bayou Bistro food truck is setting up shop at the North Detroit Street venue seven days a week while work is underway on the bricks-and-mortar restaurant.

The restaurant is a family venture that will be owned by Don Turner, according to Jennifer Roberts, Turner’s niece who helps operate the food truck.

The tentative schedule for the food-truck’s operations — as long as weather permits — is Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m., Robert said.

If all goes well, the new restaurant should open in a few months, Roberts said. The Bourbon Bayou Bistro food truck was launched earlier this year.

“We cant wait to bring our full Cajun menu out when we get completely in our new building,” Roberts said on the food truck’s Facebook page.

Bourbon Bayou is the fourth local food truck to take steps to open a restaurant. Zombie Dogz was the trailblazer — it operates a restaurant on Brown Street near the University of Dayton. Hunger Paynes has a restaurant and wine garden in the works at the Dayton Mall, and Flyby BBQ is looking for a spot in the Fairborn-Beavercreek area.
