DAYTON —

An armed robbery attempt at the Clark station on Gettysburg Avenue turned into a shooting, with one man being struck by bullets a couple times, police said.

Just after midnight Friday officers responded to a home in the 1400 block of Guenther Road, where a man reported he’d been shot. Upon further investigation, police determined the shooting happened near the pumps at the Clark, 1655 Gettysburg Ave.

The victim, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, told police three black men approached his vehicle and pulled out a small-caliber handgun, according to Dayton Sgt. Richard Blommel. Blommel said the victim was with a group of friends purchasing beer and gasoline when the attempted robbery occurred.

While fleeing the scene, several shots were fired at the victim’s vehicle, with a couple of the bullets striking the victim in the calf and others shattering the rear window of the van. The victim and his friends fled the scene and were unable to provide police with any information in regards to where the suspects fled.

Officers discovered five shell casings in the Clark parking lot. The station, which is open 24 hours, does have surveillance video, but none of the cameras recorded the reported crime on tape.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Dayton Police Department.
