DAYTON —

A 2007 Chevrolet Impala is the latest vehicle damaged by a rock apparently thrown from an overpass this morning at the Interstate 75 and U.S. 35 interchange.

The 59-year-old driver told police at 11 a.m. he was traveling south on I-75 passing under U.S. 35 when he heard a loud crash followed by the sound of rushing air, according to the Dayton police report.

The driver told police he pulled in to the BP gas station on Edwin C. Moses Boulevard and discovered his sunroof was shattered.

“Glad I wore clean shorts this morning. They missed my windshield by about a foot,” the Vandalia resident said.

Police noted in the report that “apparently … an unidentified individual threw what was probably a large rock over the interchange.”

The rock was not found. Police said it bounced off the inner sunroof cover and did not enter the vehicle.

At least three other vehicles were recently damaged by rocks thrown off an overpass in the same area.

On March 10, one vehicle’s windshield was destroyed, one was dented and a third had its overhead emergency light cover smashed.

Police have not announced any arrests or named any suspects in the incidents.
