Dave Hirst spent 25 years on the Dayton police force, building a reputation as a dedicated, quiet officer and prized colleague with a gift for ferreting out the truth.
What happened that led him to allegedly walk into a Cambridge bank a year after his retirement remains a puzzle to his friends, family, colleagues and even the cops investigating the November robbery.
