TROTWOOD —

Montgomery County prosecutors approved murder and felonious assault charges Thursday against Dylan Harrison, 21, accused of strangling his grandmother to death.

Trotwood police arrested Harrison Tuesday, a day after a routine welfare check at 4964 Natalie Court led officers to the body of Harrison’s grandmother, 69-year-old Regina Davis.

She was found in the bathtub, Trotwood police Capt. John Porter said. An autopsy revealed that Davis had been strangled, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Porter said officers were dispatched to the address at about 10:18 p.m. Monday after a neighbor called police because they had not seen Davis for a while. Police found the back door to the home was unlocked and then found Davis, Porter said.

Police believe the strangulation occurred in the home, Porter said.

Police would not initially confirm that Harrison was being detained in connection to Davis’ death. However, during a press conference held Wednesday evening, Harrison’s attorney, Jon Paul Rion, confirmed that Harrison was the subject of the investigation.

“It seems clear there was an altercation of some kind” and other people were present at the time, Rion said.

Rion said a knife was “brandished against Dylan” during the altercation, but he didn’t say who had the knife. He said the knife should still be in the residence with fingerprint evidence that would indicate who wielded it.

Rion said his client, a Tipp City High School graduate, works at a Meijer distribution center and was taking classes at Sinclair Community College. He does not have a criminal record, Rion said.

“Dylan had a good relationship not only with his grandmother but with his parents,” he said. Rion would not make clear whether Harrison lived with his grandmother.

Trotwood police are expected to release further details about the investigation on Thursday.
