DAYTON —

A Dayton man is being held in the Montgomery County Jail pending charges of assault and child endangering in connection with the beating of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.

Lemond Chambers, 27, was arrested Monday evening after the boy’s grandmother and great-aunt saw his injuries and called police.

The boy had bruising on his face, above each eye, and on his ear and thigh, according to a Dayton Police incident report.

The boy’s mother took him to urgent care on Saturday, the day the beating allegedly occurred, saying his injuries were from “running into a wall.” Urgent care doctors directed her to take him to Dayton Children’s Medical Center. Doctors there performed a CT scan, treated and released the boy, according to the report.

When the boy went with his grandmother to his great aunt’s house on Sunday the women observed the full extent of his injuries, became concerned and called police.

The boy said his injuries were caused by his mother’s boyfriend, Chambers, who “whipped” him with his sister’s toy.
