Man with bat robs local hotel

Staff Report

ENGLEWOOD — Police are searching for a man armed with a baseball bat who robbed a Main Street hotel early Tuesday.

The robbery at the Comfort Inn, 9305 N. Main St., occurred shortly after midnight, according to Englewood Police Sgt. Mike Lang.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect came into the front entrance with the bat and demanded money from the hotel clerk.

“He walked in and said ‘This is not a joke,’ ” Lang said.

The clerk complied and the robber fled the scene through a side entrance after receiving an unknown amount of money.

“No one was injured,” Lang said.

Police were called, along with a Montgomery County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. The police dog was at first able to track the robber’s scent, but lost it near the Motel 6.

The robber was described as wearing a black jacket and a black cap that was covering his face. Police believe that the robber is at least 20 years old.

The city has several hotels along Main Street. Lang encourages hotel employees in the area to lock their entrances or have a system where someone has to be buzzed into the building. He also said that clerks should call police if they feel uneasy about a situation.

“If something doesn’t feel right, give us a call before things turn bad,” he said.

Anyone with information about the robbery, should contact Englewood Police at 836-2678.
