DAYTON —
A Dayton father is in jail after his daughter showed up at school with marks on her neck and told police that her dad choked her.
Kurt Clarke, 40, was arrested at his home in the 800 block of South Smithville Road Tuesday afternoon and is facing a possible felony charge of child endangering. He is scheduled to be in court this afternoon, according to jail records.
A bus driver with Dayton Public Schools alerted a teacher at River’s Edge Montessori School after seeing marks on an 11-year-old girl’s neck Tuesday morning.
The girl told police that on Sunday she heard her father and his girlfriend arguing and asked them to stop. According to a police report, Clarke pushed her down on her bed and choked her. She told police that she couldn’t breath and was in pain while he did this.
She said her father told her he would kill her if she told anyone, according to the report.
The report notes that the girl had marks on her neck, “consistent with fingers being wrapped around her neck while being choked.”
The girl was not in school on Monday and the bus driver noticed the marks immediately on Tuesday.
Montgomery County Children Services took custody of the girl and had her checked out at Dayton Children’s Medical Center.
The girl told police Sunday was her birthday and that is why she didn’t want her dad and his girlfriend fighting.
Clarke has a prior misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence according to court records.
