DAYTON —

A Dayton mother was arrested early Thursday morning after she allegedly threatened to kill her daughter while wielding a 3-foot samurai sword.

Marie Tingle, 39, is being held in the Montgomery County Jail pending charges of endangering children and domestic violence.

According to a Dayton Police report, police were first called to Tingle’s Niagara Avenue home around midnight because she was reportedly having trouble disciplining her teenage daughter.

Police determined no crime had been committed and left after giving Tingle some advice on discipline and some info on family counseling.

But according to the report, police were back at the house a short time later because the daughter called and said her mother was waiving a sword at her.

The girl told police that just after they left the first time Tingle told her the cops said she could beat her daughter as discipline. When the girl argued that the police didn’t say that, her mother became enraged, grabbed a sword and pointed it at the teen’s face threatening to kill her, according to the report.

Tingle admitted to police that she picked up the sword and waived it around, but denied sticking it in her daughters face.

The girl was not injured.
