Observer’s behavior leads to school lockdown

By Breaking News Staff

NEW MADISON —

New Madison police located a man reported missing after he left Tri-Village Elementary while observing a classroom.

The district’s superintendent said the man is a student at an area college who was observing to see if he wants to become a teacher. While there, he became erratic and left.

The school was placed on lockdown while a search for the man ensued. He did not take his vehicle.

The man, whom Sgt. Mike Lewis with the New Madison Police Department said has a mental or medical issue, was found on Ohio 121 about an hour later. The school lockdown was lifted.

The man is not allowed to return to the school.

Initial reports indicate the man was wearing khakis, a blue shirt and tie, but no shoes when he was seen along Ohio 121.

Lewis said no charges would be filed because the behavior was due to the medical issue.
