Spate of Greene Co. home burglaries prompts warning

SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County —

A recent series of daytime residential burglaries prompted police on Wednesday to issue a warning to residents to pay close attention to visitors who show up at the front door unannounced.

The Sugarcreek Twp. Police Department is investigating three incidents — one on Land Drive, another on Napa Valley and a third on Little Sugarcreek Road. No details about any of the incident were released with the warning that was sent to media organizations.

According to Detective Sgt. J.R. Williams, the perpetrators are ringing the front door bell several times, then forcing entry usually through the back of the residence if they get no answer.

If someone answers the door, the offender or offenders have offered “some plausible explanation” for showing up at the residence, Williams said.

If you have people show up at your home unexpectedly, people you do not know, you are asked to contact the police department communications center at (937) 848-6161 or the crime tip line at (937) 310-3200.
