KETTERING —
A suspected thief police said was caught in the act by the owner of the targeted property remains in jail on $10,000 bond charged with felony robbery.
Jamie Martin, 27, was turned over to police early Monday after the owner of a car caught Martin trying to break into it at about 3:50 a.m., then detained Martin until police arrived on scene at Ansel Drive, Officer Ron Roberts said.
Officers checked Martin for weapons — as police are required to do whenever an arrest is made — and found a knife on his person, Roberts said. That discovery enhanced the charge to a felony because a knife is considered a deadly weapon under Ohio criminal law.
Bond for the Kettering man was set Wednesday during an initial court appearance. Martin’s next court date is Feb. 12, according to court record.
