Thousands in jewelry taken during break-in

DAYTON —

A 65-year-old man reported that someone broke into his home and stole about $12,500 in jewelry and other items Wednesday afternoon.

He said he came home at about 3:30 p.m. and found his home in the 400 block of Deeds Avenue ransacked.

According to a Dayton Police incident report, the thief or thieves took jewelry including his wedding band and multiple other rings and watches. They also took a safe box that contains collector knives and some old pain medication.

A neighbor told police that two men tried to break into his home on Dec. 3, but were unsuccessful.
