WEST CARROLLTON — A city councilwoman resigned Tuesday after authorities searched her home as part of an investigation into suspected drug and contraband trafficking, tax evasion and money laundering.

Jody L. Jones resigned from her council post after the investigators searched her home at 1619 Villa South Drive.

Investigators for the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission also searched the Inn Between Carryout, at 2454 Dryden Road in Moraine; Arrow Battery, at 3837 W. Alex -Bell Road in West Carrollton; and the home of Jones’ ex-husband, Edward “Ed” Claude Jones, 53, at 1181 E. Bridle Lane in West Carrollton, according to documents unsealed Tuesday.

In addition, investigators searched vehicles registered to Ed Jones and to Arrow Battery, and vehicles registered to Jeffrey A. Carmack, 48, and Sheila Russell-Cook, 55. Personal searches also were conducted on those individuals and on Jana R. Schiebrel, 44. Investigators confiscated documents; information; records; data, including electronic; and other items dating from June 2007 through Tuesday, according to the documents.

No charges have been filed, but the 12 potential offenses carry “some potentially lengthy prison sentences,” said Fred Alverson, law enforcement coordinator with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Ohio. “But no one would automatically assume they will be charged with everything listed.”
