CLEARCREEK TWP. — A Highland County woman is hospitalized in Dayton Friday after her vehicle flipped on Ohio 73.

Sgt. Wally Stacy of Clearcreek Twp. police said Valeta Doornwood, 80, of Hillsboro was traveling west on Ohio 73 when she lost control of her 1999 Chevrolet Malibu just east of Silver Lake Drive.

Stacy said for an unknown reason, the woman traveled left of center and struck a culvert. The Malibu then continued on striking another culvert, a utility pole and a tree before coming to a stop.

Capt. Steve Agenbroad of Clearcreek Twp. fire said the woman’s car was on its top when emergency responders arrived. She was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Doornwood was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. She is listed in serious condition, according to hospital officials.

Stacy said the woman will likely be cited for failure to control but no officials charges have been filed.
