‘Desperate’ gunman tries robbing laundry

DAYTON —

A man armed with a semi-automatic handgun demanded money from the owner of a Laundromat because he said he was “desperate,” according to the Dayton police incident report.

The incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. Friday at the R&J Laundry, 2514 E. Fifth St.

The suspect was described as white and was wearing a green and black striped hooded sweatshirt and a green bandanna covering his face, according to the report.

Police said the suspect pointed the gun at the owner and his daughter and addressed the owner by name, stating, “I don’t want to do this. This is not me but I need your money and gun because I’m desperate.”

The report indicates the owner did not recognize the voice of the suspect, who left empty-handed soon after the exchange.
