Dogs living on property of condemned home

FAIRBORN —

Tim Setser moved down the street after authorities here condemned his house, but his eight dogs remained.

Neighbors complained to the city and Greene County Animal Control about the conditions the dogs are living in, but authorities said the conditions are not bad enough to intervene.

“When you see a dog living in a truck, I don’t know what to think,” said Vicki Lewis, who lives across the street from Setser’s condemned home. “This is quite a view from your front door … When it’s warm out we are on the front porch and we just shake our head.”

A sign on the front door states the home is condemned and poses a danger, but the dogs reside on the property in makeshift enclosures.

Fairborn Officer John Grice said he’s been to the home on several calls last year, each time explaining to neighbors that there’s nothing he can do about the dogs.

“The owner does meet the bare minimum requirements for food, water and shelter,” he said.

Setser said he visits his dogs every day, feeding them and making sure they have water.

“I’ve not neglected them. I can’t. I love them,” he said.

Setser said he wasn’t able to take the dogs with him and he’s trying to find homes for them. He said he’s not angry that the neighbors have complained.

“I don’t blame them. If I thought these dogs were being treated bad, I would call in a minute because I’m an animal lover.”
