MIAMISBURG —

What: DASHA Fitness LLC, Sycamore Medical Center, Miamisburg

Background: Springboro resident Brenda Schumacher is a Certified Personal Trainer from the American Council on Exercise, and has Exercise Specialist certification from Sinclair Community College.

Why DASHA? The name is derived from Ayurvedic medicine, and means ‘daily living’ and ‘knowledge of the science of life.”

What Makes It Different: The business uses technology like Body 230, a GE body composition scale that determines your fat to muscle index, your BMI, your calories burned at rest, and dozens of other fitness factors.

“It send electrical impulses throughout the body, and is more accurate than a Bod Pod, and hydrostatic underwater weighing,” said Schumacher. “It’s a great tracking device for fitness goals. It is lightweight, so we could bring it out to a school or other facility for group assessments.”

Packages: Monthly Membership, $35; In Body 230 composition analysis, $25; 30-Minute Consultation/Recommendations, $35; Personal Training Session, $50; other packages range from $55 - $500 dependent upon fitness assessments, program designs, and number of training hours.

Equipment: NuStep T5xr; CYBEX 750A Arc Trainer; Precor treadmills, resistance machines and functional trainer; dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, BOSU ball; resistance bands/cables, ropes, and steps. DASHA is equipped for bariatric patients. One patient travels from Columbus for their specialized fitness machines.

Partners with Husband: Schumacher’s husband Dr. David Schumacher, has a Kettering Bariatric practice also located at Sycamore Medical Center. He has 12 years of experience and has treated patients up to 770 pounds.

Comment: “Someone with my needs can’t walk into the local Y to receive qualified help,” said Shelly Tebbe of West Alexandria who received gastric bypass surgery from Schumacher in early March, and has been a DASHA client since April. “We are working on my balance as I lose weight. I’m building up endurance I never had.”
