Dayton firefighters were called to a house fire at 53 and 55 Dover St. early Sunday morning.

DAYTON —

Dayton firefighters were called to a working residential fire early Sunday morning at 55 and 53 Dover St. The house is a duplex.

The alarm came in around 2:40 a.m.

Firefighters found flames and smoke showing when they arrived.

Flames shot through the roof, and caused it to collapse. The brick chimney is leaning.

A neighbor said another neighbor came and knocked on his door, to warn him before the fire spread to his house. The residents and their dogs made it outside safely. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to that house.

Firefighters were told that one side of the duplex was occupied. No one was found inside.

The duplex is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be suspicious.
