Gunman gets away with cash in Valero robbery

DAYTON —

A man believed to be in his late teens held up a clerk at the Valero station on South Smithville Road early Thursday morning, according to police.

Officers said the suspect, described as a black male and wearing a black coat and blue hat, approached the drive-thru window at the station, 527 S. Smithville Road and asked for several items. The clerk asked for the man’s ID due to his young age, at which point the man requested a bag of chips.

When the clerk turned back around, the suspect was pointing a handgun at the clerk, according to police.

The suspect demanded cash, and the clerk complied and gave the man $160, police said.

The armed man fled from the station on foot. So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
