DAYTON, Ohio —

A woman whose death prompted an investigation by homicide detectives Thursday has been identified as 76-year-old Viola Plank.

Homicide detectives were called to Plank’s home, 1620 DeWitt Drive, around 9 a.m. Thursday. Police said there were circumstances of the death that led them to call in detectives for a thorough investigation.

The cause of Plank’s death was not available Friday afternoon, but police said an autopsy was scheduled. She was not shot or stabbed, according to detectives.

Police also said there is one possible witness who may be able to provide more information about the woman’s death.

According to county real estate records, Plank owned the one-story bungalow. Her husband Lester Plank also lived in the home until his death in 2007.
