Indiana man found guilty in Piqua shooting

Staff Report

TROY, Ohio —

A Fort Wayne, Ind. man was found guilty Thursday in a case that police described as a “drug deal gone bad.”

Aaron Tubbs, 28, was found guilty of attempted murder, aggravated robbery, trafficking in drugs and having weapons under disability.

Tubbs was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service in December, days after a shooting in Piqua that nearly took the life of 22-year-old Michael Butts.

Police said Tubbs met with Butts that night to sell marijuana to him. Something went wrong and Butts was shot four times.

Butts testified during the trial, pointing out Tubbs as the person who shot him.

The Miami County jury did not convict Tubbs on the more serious charge of attempted aggravated murder.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 20. He faces a maximum of 29 years in prison.
