Kettering Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s “100 Top Hospitals” by Truven Health Analytics, the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based spinoff of Thomson Reuters’ health care business.

It was the ninth time Truven has recognized Kettering as one of the top hospitals in the country.

The rankings were based on the hospital’s performance in 10 areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average patient stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, post-discharge mortality, and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.

“We are extremely proud of this remarkable achievement,” said Kettering Medical Center president Roy Chew. “This award reflects the ongoing commitment of our hospital’s physicians, nurses and staff to providing an exceptional experience and the highest clinical outcomes for every patient who comes through our doors for treatment.”

Truven researchers evaluated 2,922 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals, using public information from Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Hospital Compare website.

The hospitals on the list did not apply for recognition and do not pay to include the Top 100 honor in their marketing materials.

The winning hospitals were announced in the Feb. 25 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.

Six other Ohio hospitals joined Kettering on this year’s list, including: Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Grant Medical Center and Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus; Dublin Methodist Hospital; Mercy Hospital Anderson in Cincinnati; and Mercy Hospital Fairfield.

Truven previously named Kettering one of the Top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the country.
