MONROE —

Kohl’s Department Store plans to hire 1,200 seasonal warehouse workers for its Monroe e-commerce fulfillment center in anticipation of a busy holiday shopping season, according to Tami Kou, a company spokeswoman.

Kohl’s will host a hiring event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 3500 Salzman Road, Monroe. Interviews will be conducted onsite on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The distribution center, which fills Internet orders, is hiring for all shifts in its 24-hour a day, seven day a week operation, Kou said. The distribution center typically employs between 850 and 1,000 people, Kou said.

“The majority of positions will begin in October and run through the early part of next year,” she said.

Asked about wages, Kou said, “Kohl's doesn’t disclose specific wages, but does offer competitive pay.”

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be able to lift 30 pounds. Prospective employees are asked to bring valid photo identification to the hiring event.

Although the hiring is temporary, it is significant, according to Monroe City Manager Bill Brock.

“We’re always glad to see news like this come out,” Brock said. “It’s not totally unanticipated. They staff up around this time of year, every year, for the holiday buying season, so it’s a good time of year for them.

“For them to continue this trend is a good thing for the city.”

Those who are interested in a seasonal position but are unable to attend Tuesday’s event may stop by the Kohl’s fulfillment center facility on Salzman Road at a later date to fill out an application.

Kohl’s is nearing the end of a 10-year, 75 percent tax abatement on $28.9 million in real property improvements, according to Butler County records.

When Kohl’s signed on for the abatement, it estimated the center would create 400 jobs.
