DAYTON, Ohio —

A 21-year-old has been arrested in the shooting of an 8-year-old girl wounded Sunday night in the 2800 block of North Main Street.

Dayton Police Lt. Wendy Stiver said the shooting followed a disagreement between two groups of people. She said one group of people walking down the street began arguing with another group of people sitting on a porch.

According to a Dayton police incident report, the girl’s mother and grandmother exited a house to tell the group to stop fighting and the girl followed them outside.

When the walking group stopped at a street corner, someone in the group pulled out a gun and opened fire. Stiver said the suspect fired five shots, and the little girl was hit in the leg.

She was taken to Children’s Medical Center and could require surgery, according to the police report.

Anthony Greathouse, 21, was taken into custody and will be charged with felonious assault.

He told police he walked up to several individuals he knows who were arguing with Daisean Davis and another male. He said two other individuals took out guns and fired at Davis, but missed. Police arrested Greathouse based on information from other witnesses who identified him as the shooter, the report said.

Greathouse is in the Montgomery County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.

Davis was also arrested at the scene on a charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was not in jail Monday afternoon.
