Each year on December 17th, the anniversary of powered flight is commemorated with a wreath-laying ceremony on Wright Memorial Hill near Area B.

The 109th anniversary of powered flight will be commemorated with a wreath-laying ceremony Monday, December 17 on Wright Memorial Hill near Area B.

Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park and Wright-Patterson officials will gather for the 10:15 a.m. public ceremony.

Air Force Lt. Col. Eric Piel, a C-5 and C-17 cargo jet pilot with the 89th Airlift Wing based at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., will speak at the event.

Amanda Lane Wright, a great grandniece of the Wright brothers, and Col. Cassie Barlow, Wright-Patterson 88th Air Base Wing commander, will participate in the wreath laying. Park Superintendent Dean Alexander will present a presidential proclamation.

A World War II-era B-25 Mitchell bomber, based at Grimes Field in Urbana, will perform a fly over, weather-permitting.
