SOUTHWEST OHIO —
Snow has started to move into the Miami Valley from the west and is expected to overspread the area throughout the morning.
A winter weather advisory will go into effect at 6 a.m. for most of the Miami Valley as the latest round of snow moves into the viewing area.
Around two to three inches of fresh snow is expected to fall throughout the morning and afternoon today, with the heaviest snowfall occurring mid-morning, according to Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek. Some places could see four inches, Wirdzek said.
Even with the light start to the snowfall, the expected accumulation is enough for the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for most of the Miami Valley until 5 p.m. today. That area includes Auglaize, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Greene, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Warren counties in Ohio. Wayne and Union counties in Indiana are also included in the advisory.
“Snow will take over for the majority of the morning commute, tapering down by early afternoon,” Wirdzek said. “Travel will be better for the drive home, but slippery spots may still exist.”
After several days of temperatures in the single digits and teens, the temperatures will rise to the mid-20s today, which should allow for road salt to treat the roads more effectively, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said.
Snow will leave the area completely by Saturday morning. Saturday will begin in the teens and reach the mid 20s in the afternoon.
For Sunday, warmer air slowly works back into the region, but highs will be near freezing.
A subtle drop of a few degrees to about 30 on Sunday night will be critical, Simpson said, because when precipitation arrives will determine what it is. Earlier precipitation may mean a start as snow. A start later on Sunday night means freezing rain.
Temperatures are expected to be above freezing overnight Sunday and that means we’ll have just rain well before sunrise Monday. So, the forecast calls rain at times Monday and Tuesday with highs Monday in the low 40s and the low to mid 50s Tuesday.
