Belmont consignment shop ready to help

By Marie Kriedman

When Lori Galbraith opened a consignment shop in Dayton, she wanted to focus on personal attention.

“We thrive on it,” Galbraith said.

Galbraith opened Lori’s Loft Upscale Consignment Shop in April 2008.

“We’re strictly a women’s shop,” she said. “We carry clothing in sizes 00 to 5X, shoes and handbags. We’re seasonal, so right now we’re working on fall and winter.”

The store does not have any fees and receives 50 percent of a sale. After 60 days the owner can pick it up any unsold items or the shop will donate to the Corner Cupboard Charities of Greater Dayton. Galbraith provides a tax receipt for donated items.

Consignments can be brought in during business hours. Clothing must be freshly laundered, on hangers and come from a nonsmoking home.

“You will be coming to a friendly atmosphere,” Galbraith said. “We are here to help with outfits or jewelry. We are affordable and everybody can find something.”

What: Lori’s Loft Upscale Consignment Shop, 2517 S. Smithville Road, Dayton

What the business does: “We are family owned and operated. My dad gave me the money to start my business, my mom helped the first few weeks we were open and my kids help every day by working at the store.”

What makes the business stand out: “The trendy items we take in and we have sales every day. It is consignment and it’s fun. We’re a very small store but you’ll find a hidden treasure.”

How the business started: “My sister has a consignment shop in St. Augustine, Fla., and we used to play store when we were little. It’s always been a dream of ours to play with clothes and jewelry and handbags.”

Interesting fact: “Last year we had a woman come to the store after her chemo treatments. She would come and knit and visit with the customers three times a week. We are very friendly and the shop is homely.”
