FAIRBORN —

When the Bowling Green State University Men’s Chorus performs at Fairborn High School, one of its members will be very familiar with the venue.

Damon Barnett, a graduate of Fairborn High School, is a member of the 70-voice traveling chorus scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. The concert will include a variety of music genre, from classical music to African folkdance, from Britten to barbershop and from German partsongs to spirituals.

Hailed as “America’s Finest Singing Machine,” the BGSU Men’s Chorus has a long-standing tradition of excellence and has held the honor of performing with distinction at regional and national choral and music education conferences.

The Fairborn Music Club, the school’s music booster’s organization, will use the proceeds from the concert to support various music programs at the Fairborn School District, said Jeanne Myers, the club’s treasurer.

The Music Club raises funds to pay for instruction, music, drill designs, equipment, competition fees and uniforms for the marching band, jazz band and color guard. It also pays for a piano accompanist for the junior high and high school choirs.

“With funding cuts that have taken place in the school district, it is critical for the Music Club to raise funds to help offset some of the shortfalls in music programs,” Myers said.

Barnett was in marching band/choir member returns to sing in the concert of sacred and secular music with his college chorus in a fundraiser for the Fairborn Music Club.

“As a teacher, I am always excited when my former students continue to be involved in music after high school. Damon was both in band and choir and has a lot of talent,” said Karen Gorretta, the Fairborn High School choir director.

For more information, call Gorretta at (937) 879–3611 or visit www.bgsumenschorus.com.

Advance tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students & seniors. They can be purchased at the Fairborn High School main office or by contacting Myers at 878-6176 or jmyers94@woh.rr.com. All tickets will be $7 at the door.

Fairborn High School is located at 900 East Dayton-Yellow Springs Road in Fairborn.
