TROTWOOD —

Firefighters are calling a Tuesday evening blaze in a vacant house suspicious after a witness told them that two juveniles were seen running from the residence.

Trotwood Fire Chief Brandon Barnett said no one has been living at 4920 Porterfield Drive, but the gas and electric services were on and that made it difficult for firefighters to get to the flames.

The fire started in the back of the residence and spread to the attic, Barnett said. No one was injured.

Firefighters brought the flames under control, but the house was a total loss.

Barnett estimated the damage at $25,000.

A fire investigator was called and samples of burned material were taken to determine if an accelerant was used, he said.

Fire and police officers went door to door interviewing neighbors for possible leads on how the fire may have started.

One, Tawana Calloway, who lives next door to the burned out house, said, “A group of kids goes in there sometimes to hang out, but I didn’t see them today.”
