Clayton residents can Text A Tip

By Marie Kriedman

CLAYTON —

Clayton residents now have a new way to report criminal activity while remaining anonymous.

Text A Tip started about six months ago.

“In today’s society texting is quick and easy,” police chief Richard Rose said. “We’re hoping to engage some younger folks.”

The number is (937) 608-4043. It cannot be used to request police services.

The option is available through R.A.N.G.E. Task Force, the Regional Agency Narcotics & Gun Enforcement Task Force, which assists drug enforcement in Montgomery County.

“It helps law enforcement better protect the community by providing information that may not be readily known without the help of our citizens,” Rose said. “It is more of knowledge of suspicion of criminal activity. It gives us an opportunity to investigate further.”

Since it began, Text A Tip information has pertained mostly to the county, but a few tips have been given for the Clayton area.

“It did point out some problems we were able to address,” Rose said.
