MIAMI TWP. —

Dayton International School, located at 7811 Mad River Road in Miami Twp., is hosting an open house 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 4-7.

The school is a preschool, kindergarten and first-grade Spanish immersion school.

According to its website, “The mission of the Dayton International School is to prepare students with the academic, social and foreign language skills needed to be successful in our multicultural, multilingual world.”

The school is hosting an open house, which will focus on preschool enrichment program. The classes will be conducted in Spanish. Social interaction for the kids often includes English as well.

The classes are free and open to children ages two to five years old.

“It’s an opportunity for children to experience what our sessions are like during the day,” said Alison Allport, enrollment and community relations director. “It will let them experience our preschool program, which includes book time, craft time, guided play time and interactive circle time. We want to give people a way to see how that works.”

The school has about 20 students from across the Miami Valley, including Vandalia, Beavercreek Dayton, Lebanon and Springboro.

“We do offer a complete preschool curriculum,” Allport said. “We offer it with the added benefit of Spanish. We do that because it is so beneficial for young minds. There is a window of opportunity for language learning before age six; it helps with any language acquisition skills. It’s a neat opportunity.”

The school offers small class sizes, typically five to eight students per teacher.

“The best way to really understand the mission of our school is to come and check it out,” Allport said. “People come from all over because it is such a great opportunity to be exposed to a second language. It’s beneficial for brain development, creativity and problem solving. There are so many benefits to a second language. It’s learning language in a natural way, which is the best for young children.”

Reservations are requested by Jan. 31.
