FAIRBORN —

The city of Fairborn will be hosting another DIY program on Aug. 20.

Following the success of the “Building Rain Barrels” workshop, the city will present Landscaping: The Inside Scoop on Shrubs from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 2200 Commerce Center Blvd. It will be presented in conjunction with the Ohio State University Greene County Extension

“We had a capacity filled room for our first program ‘Building Rain Barrels’ which, we hope to offer again in March 2013,” said Alicia Eckhart, Fairborn superintendent of parks and recreation. “We have a number of other green programs that we plan to run through now and 2013. It is our hope to offer outdoor focused programs for adult recreation and environmental education for everyone who is interested.”

The workshop will be presented by Barbara Mills, horticulture program assistant, who will talk about 45-50 different shrubs.

Topics will include what type of shade and shun various shrubs tolerate and need, soil types and pests.

This workshop has a limited number of spaces left but Eckhart says that that they will accept registrations up to the day of the workshop until it is filled.

Registration forms are available at www.ci.fairborn.oh.us as well as in the government center lobby located at 44 W. Hebble Ave., Fairborn. Registration for the class is $10. Those funds will go towards re-planting ash trees in Community Park. Eckhart says that they are currently hoping to replace between five and eight trees in the main portion of the park
