FAIRFIELD TWP. — Police here are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. in the 2600 block of Tylersville Road when a Dodge Dakota Sport heading west made a left turn into a driveway and in front of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle heading east, said Fairfield Twp. police office Brandon McCroskey, the department’s traffic investigator, citing a preliminary report.

The motorcycle struck the right rear of the Dodge sport utility vehicle, mangling the front part of the bike.

A man driving the motorcycle “barely had a pulse” immediately following the crash, according to emergency scanner traffic. He later died.

Fairfield Twp. life squad transported the man to the Butler County Regional Airport, where a medical helicopter was on standby but did not take off, McCroskey said.

Preliminary data indicates the uninjured SUV driver failed to yield, the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and neither driver showed signs of operating a vehicle while impaired, he said.

Whether or not excessive speed played a part in the crash is yet to be determined, he said. Any citations or charges for the driver of the SUV are dependent on the results of the investigation, McCroskey said.

The deceased’s name and age are not expected to be announced until today, pending an autopsy by the Butler County Coroner’s Office, he said.
