SIDNEY, Ohio —

One person has been charged with aggravated arson following a Tuesday evening fire at a duplex on Northwest Avenue.

Police arrested Shawna Pellman, 29, and booked her into the Shelby County Jail around 12:30 a.m. Pellman appeared in court Wednesday morning where she was arraigned on a charge of aggravated arson. Her bond was set at $5,000 cash.

Sidney Fire Chief Bradley Jones said crews were dispatched to the 600 block of Northwest Avenue just after 7 p.m. on a report of a structure fire. They found a two-story, wood frame duplex heavily involved in flames, he said.

Despite having the fire under control relatively quickly, the estimated cost of damage to the structure is $80,000, and the estimated cost of the contents is $25,000, according to reports.

The end of the duplex where the fire burned was not occupied.
