GERMAN TOWNSHIP —

A garage located at 3873 Lawrenceville Drive is considered a total loss after it caught fire from flammable materials ignited by an acetylene torch Saturday afternoon just after 2 p.m.

German Township fire crews were able to respond within a minute of the call since the location was only five houses down from the agencies firehouse, officials said. In spite of the fast response, the garage was engulfed upon arrival.

Assistance from Pike Township was requested.

The main house was only four feet from the burning garage, but crews were able to beat back the fire, stopping it from spreading, officials said. Some siding on the main house and the neighboring residence melted from the heat of the flames.

The owner had been working with a torch in the garage, fire officals said. No one was injured.
