Hallowfunoweenie set at Beavercreek church

By Marie Kriedman

BEAVERCREEK —

Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene is hosting its annual Hallowfunoweenie event from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

The church is located at 1850 N. Fairfield Road, in Beavercreek, and has hosted the Halloween event about 10 years.

“Our first year we wanted to have a safe alternative where we knew where the candy came from,” children’s pastor Sheila Slone said.

Children can dress up in costumes, but it is not required.

Trunk or treat will be available, and trunks will be decorated with themes. There will be a trunk decorating contest. The free event will include hot dogs, hayrides, a photo booth and, of course, candy. Carnival rides and a climbing wall will also be available. The event is open to the public.

“It’s going to be fun and it’s going to be free,” teaching pastor J.R. Forasteros said. “We think parents would like a safe place to bring their kids to, and it’s a great place to join an evening out with your neighbors.”

The church has about 1,000 members and sponsors multiple events per year for kids and families. Hallowfunoweenie typically draws about 1,200 visitors.

“Our church is always looking for ways to participate in our community and demonstrate that we value families and spaces for families to be together,” Forasteros said. “In our culture families are always busy, and they don’t always have time to enjoy each other.”
