Homicide detectives are investigating a stabbing that happened on the grounds of Smith's Carry-Out in Dayton Saturday morning.

DAYTON, Ohio —

Originally taken to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries, a man is expected to survive after being stabbed at least two times outside a carry-out on Lorenz Avenue in Dayton Saturday morning.

The victim — a man in his 50s — was stabbed outside Smith’s Carry-Out at the corner of Lorenz and Oakridge drive, according to police.

Dayton Police Sgt. Larry Tolpin said the man’s attacker is believed to be a man in his mid-20s. The incident was not considered to be a robbery attempt, and as of Saturday afternoon, investigators did not believe it was connected to organized gang activity or a drug sale.

Tolpin said several witnesses saw the incident unfold. The fight between the two men was also captured on surveillance video.

Police said the argument began outside the store around 11:30 a.m. The victim was stabbed at least once and fell down. Police said he was then dragged — actually into better camera view — and the fight continued. The man eventually collapsed about three or four feet inside the carry-out’s entrance.

The suspect fled and the investigation is ongoing.
