HUBER HEIGHTS — Anita Brock announced at a recent Huber Heights City Council meeting that she can’t do everything, that she’s cutting back.

While she’ll remain on the school board and run for another term in November, her 17-month director’s position at the Huber Heights Chamber of Commerce ends at the end of this month.

Joshua Sullenberger, chamber president, said former director Pat Stephens will come back as interim director and, “we hope to hire someone by November,”

Even though Brock’s job is listed as part-time, it calls for 35 hours a week; and she regularly puts in more. She has one part-time assistant.

“I’ve been doing it, but it’s about my family,” said Brock, whose husband, Chuck, travels a lot. They have three children ages 17, 15 and 10.

“At first, I thought, ‘Mommy can do it all,’ ” Brock said. “I’ve found that I can’t. I’d rather leave knowing I did my best. I’d hate to stay and do any harm and not give 100 percent.”

Brock said the chamber has 221 members, and every time one of them wants a ribbon cutting, grand opening or business meeting, she’s there.

“We’re supporting our businesses,” Brock said. “Now, let’s grow from that. Every month we have networking events. My job is a lot of connecting.”

Brock had previously been on the school board, but dropped off for a couple of years, then took on the unexpired term of Jim Hart, who died about a year ago. That position is up for election again in November.

“Everybody should give back to the community they live in,” Brock said. “If you like your community, and you like connecting people, and you think you can make a difference, that’s the important thing.”
