ISP: 2 Ohio men stopped on I-70 had heroin

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. —

A Centerville man and a man from Trotwood are accused of drug possession after the car they were in was stopped as part of a state patrol crash-reduction effort Sunday on Interstate 70.

Darion Miller, 20, of Centerville, was driving a gray 2007 Chevrolet passenger car at about 8:40 a.m. that was apparently following another car too closely, which the Indiana State Police say is one of the top three causes of crashes on the interstate, Sgt. John Bowling, ISP-Pendleton District public information officer, said Monday.

Henry County is one county west of Wayne County.

Trooper Kris Martin, who was working the crash-reduction detail in that area, noticed the two cars and stopped the Chevy. The vehicles were at the speed limit, Bowling said, but they were less than a car length distance apart.

After speaking to the driver, Miller, and his passenger, 24-year-old William Lowery, Martin became suspicious, Bowling said.

Two other troopers, one of whom was with a K-9, were nearby and came to assist. The K-9, Jaxx, did an open air sniff of the vehicle and alerted on the presence of narcotics in the car, Bowling said. A search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of marijuana and three capsules containing heroin.

Miller was charged with felony drug possession (heroin) and misdemeanor drug possession (marijuana).

Lowery was charged with felony drug possession (heroin and marijuana), Bowling said.

Both were free Monday after posting bond, according to Henry County Jail records.
