Local fruit farm hosting strawberry festival this weekend

CLEARCREEK TWP. — From shortcake to milkshake, from pies to chocolate dipped, this weekend, Hidden Valley Fruit Farm will celebrate all things strawberry.

Hidden Valley Fruit Farms will hold their annual Strawberry Spectacular Festival this weekend at the farm, 5474 N. Ohio 48, just north of Lebanon.

“We will have anything strawberry you can think of,” said Lisa Shetterly, manager of Hidden Valley Fruit Farm.

Shetterly said the festival was started to celebrate the ripening of strawberries and their prime picking season. This year, however, the strawberries were three weeks early because of the warm spring.

“We’ll still have plenty of strawberries on hand,” Shetterly promised.

The festival will have train rides for kids and a petting zoo of barnyard animals.

“It’s a fun, inexpensive time for the whole family,” Shetterly said.

Hidden Valley Fruit Farm was founded in 1951 and now has more than 70 acres of farmland. The farm grows a variety of crops besides strawberries, including apples, grapes, pears, blueberries and peaches.

Hidden Valley Fruit Farm will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on both days.
