Man convicted in plot to kill sent to prison

DAYTON —

A 29-year-old Miamisburg man convicted in September to charges accusing him of conspiring to kill his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his son, was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison.

Samuel Stein was sentenced in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder. A jury convicted the former fast food worker in September.

According to Miamisburg police, Stein began discussing, with his roommate, his desire to kill his former girlfriend in 2011. The roommate continually refused to become involved, but Stein kept up the pressure on her.

The roommate told police she felt Stein would harm her if she didn’t cooperate. She also said she felt that Stein was indeed going to kill the intended victim.

The roommate went to police and told them about the plot, and they arrested Stein in March after investigating the roommate’s concerns.

“The defendant’s plan was thwarted” because of the roommate’s cooperation, county Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said.
