Thurgood Marshall student makes shooting threat

Staff Report

DAYTON —

A Thurgood Marshall High School Student could be facing criminal charges after he allegedly punched another student and threatened to shoot him, Wednesday.

According to an incident report filed with Dayton Police, the boy, whose age is unknown, is accused of sucker punching a 14-year-old classmate in a classroom at the school, 4447 Hoover Ave. He could be charged with misdemeanor assault.

The victim told police that he was punched in the mouth several times and tackled to the ground. When teachers broke up the fight, the attacker yelled that he was going to shoot the victim, according to the report. A stolen cell phone that the victim had recently recovered may have triggered the incident.

Dayton Public Schools spokeswoman Jill Moberley said the school is investigating the incident and will follow due process in disciplining the student.

The victim’s mother told News Center 7 that her son had to get five stitches in his lip. She said she was told the other student received a 10-day suspension.

According to the Dayton Public Schools 2012 Student Code of Conduct, both fighting and making threats towards another student are Level II offenses, punishable by either in-school or out-of-school suspension.
