Moraine holiday events set

By Marie Kriedman

MORAINE —

The city of Moraine has many events planned for residents during the holiday season.

Children, ages 4-12, are welcome to participate in Christmas window painting. The event will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Payne Recreation Center, 3800 Main St.

Kids are encouraged to paint Christmas scenes on the center’s windows.

“It will help make our recreation center look festive,” said Dave Miller, director of parks and recreation. “Our front entrance has a circular front with all glass windows. It’s really neat to see all the paintings the kids do. It makes the building come more alive for the holidays.”

The city will provide the paint and nearly 50 children are expected to attend. The cost is $2 per child. Afterward, kids can enjoy a snack and play Christmas bingo.

Another event is the annual Christmas tree lighting, set for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7. The ceremony will take place at the Moraine Municipal Building, 4200 Dryden Road.

The event has taken place for more than 40 years, and about 400 people are expected to attend. Youth from local churches will provide singing and music throughout the evening. Free cookies and hot chocolate will be available. Santa will arrive via a helicopter, weather permitting.

“It kicks off the season and the Christmas spirit,” Miller said.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early. Parking is located on the south and north sides of the building.
