Motorcyclist struck by deer, is flown to hospital

A doctor traveling on Interstate 75 Saturday night gave medical attention to a motorcyclist seriously hurt in a crash with a deer.

The accident was reported just after 8 p.m. along Southbound I-75 at the 71 mile marker near Tipp City.

The motorcycle rider was traveling in the middle lane when a deer came out of the woods on the west side, said Trooper Anthony Kuhn with the Piqua Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

"The deer kind of jumped into the side of the bike," he said. "He (the motorcyclist) drove down a little further, went unconscious and fell over."

The motorcyclist, whose name and age was not released, was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was wearing a helmet. His injuries were serious but were not believed to be life-threatening, Kuhn said.

A doctor was one of several motorists who witnessed the accident and stopped to help. The doctor, who was not identified, had some medical equipment in his vehicle and assisted the victim was in and out of consciousness and likely in shock, Kuhn said.

The deer was killed in the collision, which remains under investigation.
