Semi catches fire on I-75 near Troy

TROY —

The wheels of a semi truck hauling auto parts caught fire on Tuesday but the driver escaped unharmed and traffic was largely unaffected on I-75.

Authorities said just before noon the driver saw smoke and immediately pulled over and noticed the tires on the driver’s side of the truck were on fire.

An overheated brake was likely the cause of the fire, officials said at the scene.

The truck was not hauling any hazardous materials. Traffic moved steadily along northbound I-75 even though

it was down to one lane.

The semi was just north of Troy when the driver was forced to pull over.
