DAYTON —

Two men who told police they were headed to a downtown bar to drink and smoke marijuana were arrested on drug possession charges early Monday morning.

Christopher Boykin, 29, and Will Holmes III, 23, are both being held in the Montgomery County Jail pending formal charges of possession of drugs.

According to a Dayton Police incident report, Holmes was driving on South Patterson Boulevard just after midnight when officers pulled him over because his windows were tinted more than the allowed amount under Ohio law.

Officers observed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle as they talked to Holmes, who did not have a valid driver’s license.

When officer’s searched the car, they recovered several gel caps full of crack cocaine and heroin under the front seats and some marijuana from a cup holder. Boykin was found to have $1136 in cash on him.

Holmes said the marijuana was his for personal use and that he had no knowledge of the other drugs in the car, according to the report. He told officers that the men were headed to Club Vex to drink and smoke.
