SPRINGFIELD — A Dayton TV station that airs reruns of shows like “Route 66” and “Highway to Heaven” has plans to hit the road and move operations to Springfield.

RTV 32 — an affiliate of the Retro Television Network — hopes to add new, locally produced programming to augment programs such as “Starsky & Hutch.”

“We feel Springfield has really been devoid of an electronic voice,” said Randall Hulsmeyer, general manager of RTV 32.

When asked about the timeline for the move, Hulsmeyer answered in the form of a classic TV show.

“That’s the $64,000 question,” he said.

WWRD, broadcast on cable channel 22, is looking for a local facility.

“We’re still very early in the move,but it’s absolutely our intention to move to Springfield,” he said.

The station currently doesn’t have a studio.

“I could do a lot of the switching for the station from my smartphone,” said Hulsmeyer, a Vandalia resident who began managing the station last year.

Still, having a studio “lends itself to even more local broadcast opportunities,” he said.

RTV 32 has broadcast local sporting events, including Shawnee High School’s state championship football game in 2011.

Plans also are under way for its first local show.

Springfield resident Michele Hemphill will host “Our Town, Our Time,” a weekly show set to premiere at 9:30 a.m. April 22.
