BELLBROOK, Montgomery County —
A young adult woman had to be rescued Thursday night after she fell down a 15-foot ravine in a dark, wooded area behind houses on Moss Oak Trail.
Fire crews used a Stokes litter (a wire or metal basket, cage-like apparatus), rope rescue operations and a ladder to get the woman out and ferry her about 200 yards through the woods and back onto the street, Bellbrook Fire Chief Scott Hall said.
Crews were dispatched to the area at about 8:45 p.m. on a report of a person trapped.
The operation to get her out took about 45 minutes, Hall said, noting that she was in the ravine on a cold October night for about an hour before crews arrived. Area temperatures were in the low to mid 40s at the time, according to the National Weather Service.
Some friends told firefighters they knew the woman was back in the woods, Hall said. They found her and called for help.
She appeared to be in good shape, having suffered minor scrapes and cuts, he said. She also exhibited signs of mild hypothermia. The woman, whose name and age were not given, was taken to Kettering Medical Center.
